Health & Safety Specialist

TreowGroup Recruitment, on behalf of our Niagara-based Manufacturing client, is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist.

Role Overview: 
As the Health & Safety Specialist you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the safety and well-being of team members. In collaboration with Senior Plant Management, you will monitor and assess workplace environments to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, and implement policies to minimize the risk of job-related accidents. In this ‘hands-on’ role, you will conduct training sessions on various safety topics, keep meticulous records, and be the champion for safety initiatives for the plant.

You will make your impact by:
  • Developing and implementing safety policies, plans, and procedures in compliance with regulatory laws (OHSA, WSIA, EPA, MOL, etc).
  • Conducting risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Leading safety training and awareness programs on various health and safety topics.
  • Ensuring compliance through regular health, safety, and environmental standards inspections and audits.
  • Maintaining meticulous health and safety documentation including accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and health and safety meetings.
  • Collaborating with management, team members, and external stakeholders (such as regulatory agencies) to foster a culture of safety in the workplace.
  • Continuously improving, staying updated on new laws, regulations, and industry best practices in health and safety, and integrate this knowledge into the company's safety programs.
  • Investigating workplace accidents or incidents to determine their causes and develop solutions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely reporting in line with legal requirements and company policies.
  • Maintaining and monitoring environmental policies and practices.
  • Supporting workplace compensation claims and return to work protocol.
  • Ensuring detailed HS& E monthly reports are accurate and submitted on a timely basis.
You are a great fit if you:
  • Have 2+ years coordinating health & safety in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction environment.
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or diploma (health & safety or environmental studies preferred).
  • Are knowledgeable of applicable laws and regulations (OHSA, WSIA, EPA, etc.).
  • Excel in health & safety programs / systems (i.e. ISO, Workwell, OSHAS).
  • Are working towards a CRSP designation (a definite asset but not mandatory).
  • Work autonomously with a high proficiency for detail and compliance.
